Easier Entertainment: How to Make Your TV and Sound System Work Together

Christina Tollefson • January 31, 2023

You know how annoying it is when your TV and sound system just don't seem to communicate. You press the volume button on your remote, but nothing happens. Or you try to change the input on your TV, but the sound comes through your soundbar instead. It's frustrating to constantly have to juggle multiple controllers just to get your TV and sound system to work together.

And don't even get started on trying to explain the setup to your guests. They just can't seem to figure it out without a tutorial. It's almost enough to make you want to go back to the days of just using your TV's built-in speakers.

Take for example our client in Palm Harbor.

Our client had an existing system which didn't work reliably, was difficult to control, had poor sound, and was a wiring catastrophe.

We removed all existing electronics and wiring and rewired the entire system. We mounted the TV on the wall then installed a new Panamax surge suppressor, Yamaha RX-A6A multi-zone 150-watt A/V receiver, and ran new HDMI and optical audio cables.

For speakers, we installed Monitor Audio Bronze left/right fronts and center bookshelf speakers as well as Monitor Audio CW265 rectangle in-ceiling rear speakers.

We also set up dual SpeakerCraft 10" subwoofers and programmed a new URC MX990 custom-programmed remote along with a URC MRF350 RF module to allow control of the system reliably from within the furniture without the limitations of pointing the remote control. For the many speakers in additional rooms, we added (2) Niles SS6 speaker selectors into the amplifier. We also upgraded some of the several speakers throughout his home and pool area.

The end result - an amazing, completed room. The client was extremely pleased with how everything was easy to use and the sound quality was great and he couldn't believe he had not done this sooner!
