Mounting A TV Can Be A Tricky Business

December 2, 2022

Mounting a TV can be a tricky business. The last thing you want is for your new flat screen to come crashing down and take out a chunk of your floor.

But it happens all the time! Because hanging a TV isn't as simple as just screwing it to a wall. If you've never mounted a TV before, it can be hard to know how to find the studs, what kind of anchors or lag bolts to use, and even whether or not you have enough room for a mount.

There are all kinds of issues that can come up when mounting a TV—even if you do everything right! So how do you make sure that everything goes smoothly?

First and foremost, make sure that you're comfortable hanging your TV mount. This might seem obvious, but if an accident occurs while installing your new flat screen—and it could happen! You don't want an injury because you weren't prepared for something like this to happen!

Second, you need to understand Florida construction. This isn't like a brick house up north. You have drywall, furring strips, and then cement block. Sometimes you have drywall, studs, and then cement block. The type of wall will determine how you mount your TV.

If you choose the wrong anchors or bolts, you might have a disaster.

Lastly, hang from your TV mount before hanging your TV. Yep, you heard that right. Take all your weight and hang from the mount. If done properly, there should be no issues. If you are afraid to hang from your DIY installation, don't mount the TV. Call a professional.

We recently remounted a TV at a business where the anchors weren't attached to anything structural. They were only secured by the drywall anchors and pulled away from the wall.

A TV MUST BE MOUNTED INTO SOMETHING STRUCTURAL-mount into wood studs, metal studs, or cement/block/stone.

We get it, we do this for a living so we are biased. But, we've also seen TVs that have pulled away from the wall. We've seen TVs that have damaged floors, furniture, and shattered. These incidents could have been much worse if someone was standing or playing under these poorly mounted TVs.
