During the meeting with my marketing team at Entertainment Pros, we were discussing this week's strategy when the topic of Memorial Day came up. As a veteran and a Marine, this holiday holds a profound significance for me. It's a time for us to pause, remember, and reflect on the brave souls who've made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.



For many, this long weekend is a much-awaited opportunity to relax, fire up the grill, and spend time with family and friends. I cherish these moments too, but for me, Memorial Day stirs memories which remind me of camaraderie, resilience, and the value of service - emotions and experiences which are intricately woven into my journey, both as a veteran and an entrepreneur.

I enlisted in the Marines at the age of 23, leaving behind my family farm in South Dakota and the construction work I'd been doing. I was yearning for a challenge, something bigger than myself, something to push my limits. The Marines is a trial by fire, testing your physical and mental capabilities in ways you could never fully articulate. It teaches you about endurance, resilience, teamwork, loyalty, integrity, and honor. My time as a Marine will forever be a part of me. It shaped who I am today and molded my approach to leadership and service. 

As we all gather to celebrate Memorial Day, let's take a moment to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Their selfless service is the reason we enjoy the freedoms we often take for granted. They've given everything for our country, and for that, we owe them our gratitude, respect and the responsibility to carry their legacy forward. 

I hope this day serves as a reminder for you as well: freedom is never free and it is up to each of us to honor those who have given their lives in its defense. Enjoy your day with your loved ones, remembering the bravery and sacrifice of our servicemen and women who us that freedom. So, hoist your flags high, let them ripple against the sky in an earnest display of respect and gratitude. Encourage your neighbors, friends and family to do the same. Let's unite in this simple gesture.
